Fireflies is a project developed by Will Donohoe, Billy Bogiatzoglou and Ashley Gale. It was developed for Animated Exeter and was projected onto Exeter Cathedral.
The fireflies projected on the Cathedral get attracted to the architectural details of the arch on the west wing to form the pattern.
An Inferred camera was used to track people as they walked past, as the audience interacted with the project, the fireflies left their positions and followed the position of the audience.
As two people get close to each other the groups of fireflies collide and cause a light explosion
A wireless microphone was passed around the audience, when a loud noise was shouted into the microphone, the fireflies get startled and scatter.
This installation caused the audience to react differently to the space, instead of staring at a projection mapping animation, they ran around in circles and interacted with it.
