In September 1996, I did a few top-to-bottoms(190m) near Sunne, tracing with my UP Vision a part of the slope that had been cleared of trees for downhill skiing. My "record" duration on that day was 3,5 minutes. My instructor told me afterwards, that according to Peter Brinkeby who had flewn there, this site was no good - "no real lift, only turbulence"("stök").
In September 2010, I had the inclination to at long last try better my old site record. In the meantime, the duration of the few flights by pilots living in Värmland(who preferred to go thermalling elsewhere) had not really been longer either, according to flightlog.org/fl.html?l=1&country_id=203&start_id=2039&a=42
On Sunday, I could in fact in fact accomplish an improvement on my existing record by as much as 50% to 5 minutes, in spite of unexpected stratus cloud cover.
On Monday, I flew well and long enough under cloudless sky near Torsby. On Tuesday, with cumulus clouds and on my way home to Stenungsund, I thought that I should be able to improve my personal site record even more, and I sure did that , but alas, far from utilizing the full potential of the day and the site.
I had to concentrate on sorting out the right brake twice. Both after the first and the second (and successful) attempt, I turned right, so audibly huffing and puffing before that, I fiddled with the brake handle and the D-lines.
P.S.: I am sorry for the substandard video quality due to the conversion. I tried many different settings and bit rates to little avail.
Only after uploading 3/4 of the vid did I find this vimeo.com/forums/topic:3671 which may or may not help me do better the next time.
