A constructivist documentary about a world that never existed. Crank your volume way up!
Formally inspired by The Man With The Movie Camera by Dziga Vertov, aesthetically and thematically inspired by Koyaanisquatsi.
Recipient of a Virgil Grillo award for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking for Cinema Production I at UCB.
The saturation was not boosted at all. In fact, the Vimeo encoding actually sucks some of the color out of it. Download the original file to see better color and detail. The film is also quite dirty and scratched due to the multitude of projectors I have run it through.
Shot on 16mm Ektachrome for the color segment. DoubleX was used for the black and white segments, which was processed and printed onto HiCon by me. Also, photochemically edited, then scanned into 4K by me.
Special thanks: My dad, who acted as driver and assistant for several of the segments. Equipment rental and telecine machine curtesy of the Film Studies program at CU Boulder. Stock and processing by Pro8mm. Music is "Resource" by Philip Glass from the Koyaanisqatsi soundtrack.
