2010 marks the second year of the dis/assemble dance project.
The 18 months since the group performed their first work ‘6’ have been a busy one. In late 2009, the group toured the work ‘6’ to the Awakenings Festival in Horsham as a feature act of the Festival.
In February this year, we commenced work on what is now ‘embodied’. We were surprised, delighted and moved by what we had achieved in 2009 and this provided us with the perfect platform to develop this new work. We were able to push our dancers further, come up with new ways to choreograph works, and explored making our own dance works for film.
We have also been joined by several new cast members, who have provided insights and opportunities with their individual skills and personalities.
The dis/assemble dance project is a partnership between Murray Arts, disability organisation SITE, the Regional Academy of Performing Arts and local artists.
Under the artistic direction of Tim Podesta the group creates contemporary dance works for dancers with and without disabilities.
The aim of the dis/assemble dance group is to break down the walls between ability and disability - to use contemporary dance to engage and investigate each dancers individuality and their unique ableness regardless of their age or disability.
