Galway Kinnell reads two poems, 'Saint Francis and the Sow' and 'Everyone Was in Love', from the DVD-book IN PERSON: 30 POETS, filmed by Pamela Robertson-Pearce & edited by Neil Astley (Bloodaxe Books, 2008). Pamela has been filming poets reading their work for Bloodaxe's archive, website and DVD-books. These poems by Galway Kinnell are from SELECTED POEMS (Bloodaxe Books, 2001) and STRONG IS YOUR HOLD (Bloodaxe Books, 2007) respectively. Galway Kinnell's diverse work ranges from odes of kinship with nature to realistic evocations of urban life, from religious quest to political statement, from brief imagistic lyrics to extended, complex meditations. His poetry has always been marked by precise, furious intelligence, by rich aural music, by devotion to the things and creatures of the world, and by transformations of every understanding into singing, universal art. We filmed him at his home in Vermont in September 2007.
