...or as they are known by the Tai peoples of Northern Thailand/Laos and Burma "Nok Gingala".

This is the real thing....by the locals for the locals.... not some show done for tourists.

The TaiYai peoples share many customs of neighbouring Burma..... their temples and writing styles are similar too.

These teen-aged girls have really practiced this dance well, and been taught well. I have seen this done by younger and older dancers, but without the skill of these two.

They are from Baan Gong Lom, near to the Burmese border and near to Chiang Dao, about 100 Km. North of Chiangmai city.

I have never seen this kind of dance before. It is quite interesting and distinctive of bird dance. Where was this take place? And what were they celebrating? Thanks.

This is in Fang, near Chiangmai, North Thailand, where I am living. Every year all the village temples have a festival at the end of the Buddhist three-month rains-retreat period. Teams of dancers from each village or temple go and visit each others festivals to make a show for all to watch. In the North of Thailand, many Tai Yai people have come into Thailand to live, from Burma mostly, and their culture and customs are similar to the Burmese ones.
The commentator is speaking in the Northern Thai dialect which is similar to the Laos language in both the spoken and writing forms.
