In today’s Gospel, Jesus stresses the point that the external practices of religiosity is not the basis of holiness that is acceptable to the Lord. Prayers, prophesies, casting of demons and even miracles done in God’s name may be hollow acts if done for selfish motives and not due to honest love of God and neighbor.
Jesus also points out that those who persist in hypocritical religious practices are like building their houses on sand that would cave in causing the houses to topple down.
Jesus adds that those who follow His advice on purity of intentions are like people who build their houses on solid rock, God (Psalm 18:2) who will sustain them unto eternal life.
