Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Sociologists, ecologists, and economists alike see Haiti as a "nightmare gone bad". Factors such as high infant mortality, disease, illiteracy, poor education, overpopulation, deforestation, soil erosion, rapid urbanization, high unemployment and a weak infrastructure, all combine to bring misery to the people of Haiti.

Friends of Haiti is a nonprofit organization, devoted to improve the health, education and economic development of the people of Haiti.

They are a 501 (c) (3) organization fully supported by volunteers. Ninety eight percent of donations go directly into the work in Haiti.
