Number six in a series of video essays inspired by a challenge by The Criterion Cast podcast in which I explore films in The Criterion Collection that have influenced my filmmaking style and aesthetic – this one is for Terry Jones' 1979 biblical epic. As it turns out, this is another Criterion (spine number 61, criterion.com/films/606-monty-pythons-life-of-brian) that is out of print.
For the most part, it is the surreal narrative style of the troope - from their television show through their foray into motion pictures - that I gravitate toward.
