My graduation film Khoda.
Description:
What if you watch a film and whenever you pause it, you face a painting? This idea inspired Reza Dolatabadi to make Khoda. Over 6000 paintings were painstakingly produced during two years to create a five minutes film that would meet high personal standards. Khoda is a psychological thriller; a student project which was seen as a ‘mission impossible’ by many people but eventually proved possible!

The most productive piece of student work I've ever seen.

It's amazing how the style constantly changes throughout the film... that's 2 and a half years of growth right there.
  • Reza Dolatabadi 1 year ago
thats some compliment, thanks. it true by the time the film got finished, I had a whole new perspective of film making.
  • Brown 1 year ago
I'd agree with Javed, most student work is difficult to sit through, but this was superb, better than most pro animations

That is truly stunning! That must have been a vast amount of work.
When organising a shoot I can story-board to about lunch. After that the shoot is in the hands of the gods. To conceptualise and create for two years is just beyond me. My hat is off to you.
*any of those paintings for sale?
  • Reza Dolatabadi 1 year ago
after finishing this film, I did another project kind of like that, in about 25 days. the film is a music promo for a track by my my friend Hamed Mafakheri who composed Khoda soundtrack.

    its in my gallary "octo-Dancing"

    Thanks for the comment

This really warrants a "making of" video complete with an interview of the creators involved. The stereotypical artist can not maintain love (motivation, fortitude, etc) for a project over two months let alone two years. What you did is ground breaking and should be acknowledged as such. Good on you, mate!
  • Reza Dolatabadi 1 year ago
Thanks alot, well I wanted was, to make something 'ground breaking'. well at least for a student project. I'm happy that once in a while someone aproving it:d
    Thanks again:D

Great work Reza. Got major associations to Orwells "1984" even though I guess it was based on something else judging my the credits. Well done!

Pretty cool way to tell a story. The end credits, while they probably took the least amount of time to make, was really visually mesmerizing.
  • Reza Dolatabadi 1 year ago
yea the end creadit was a long story. I just didnt want to have it in black and white text, also it would be too much paint to paint and add text on it. so i just started having fun with my camcorder. + at the time i just bought that so i really wanted to use it somehow in the film.

    Cheers,

  • I think it's brilliant that you keep yourself on a project for 2 years!! A lot of respect...

    Cool style.

Am I aloud to ask you: How did you made the paintings?
Did you first made a 3d movie en used that for the paintings?

    I'm very curious.

    Greats
  • Reza Dolatabadi 1 year ago
yea, a very basic 3D animation (well basic in terms of modeling). we wanted to have a perfect animation timing. then I painted the rendered frames in Photoshop.

    Cheers.
