Truly well made video, some very awesome shots and you can feel the soul of his work. I don't go out working with my hands as often as I use to, now that I'm in the computer field and am far from my hometown (where my carpentry shop is) but every time I do, I feel a much bigger sense of accomplishment then for any other projects I do.

what i meant is that the piano gave the character another dimention. its a key part. to make the espectator believe in what he says.. showing himself as a guy full of surprises
never buy a book for its cover or something like that.

What a GREAT little film. Beautifully shot and edited. The story is interesting. I agree to a certain extent about today's youth, but I wouldn't paint them with such a broad stroke....there are many out there picking up where Dad left off, though it may take a little time. (It looks like he installs the tool holder in the lathe upside down). But what a cool-looking shop....no wonder he's broke! I wish him well. Thanks for sharing that with us. By the way, what camera did you use?

Wow, great subject and theme. It's great to know that people like Adam are out there, and that there are artists like yourself with the vision to find them and distill the subject into such a well-honed film.

Also, since this is also so beautifully shot -- and this being vimeo and all -- can you mention what kind of equipment you used?

    Thanks for posting!

Beautiful film. I spent the four minutes inspired by the lovely images and frank narration by the subject to wonder about the disappearance of the self-sufficient, creative American. Then the last few seconds put an exclamation point on the whole thing. I think it's no coincidence that he has a piano in his shop.

Great video. But tell Adam that I am part of the generation he believes doesn't have the drive to learn these skills; and that I have walked into multiple motorcycle mechanic shops and asked if I could work for free to learn. Each one has turned me away due to liability...

Everything you said was the truth. The kids these days don't care about pretty much nothing less alone creating works of art with machines such as a cycle. I'm a rider of 29 years and still at it. Keep up the great work to a lost art. And to the filmmaker, I love how you captured this moment in 4 minutes.

I really like this accomplished short.....(I am struggling with a factory-type film at the moment).

The Glides, the spot on audio, the head and shoulder portraits are very fine...and just enough glitchy energy in the cut.

The Character's compelling philosophy is very resonant to current UK industry.....or rather the demise of it.

Hey Guys, thanks for checking out the video.

I have gotten a number messages about tech details. It was shot on the 5d mkII. I used a handful of lenses but mostly the 24mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2 and 70-200 2.8.

The camera moves were done with a home made "skater" dolly.

Sound was with the zoom with a reference track feed to the 5d. Most of the "nat" sound was recorded separately and added back in to "sweeten" the piece.

I mostly work just as a DP, but on this piece I did everything from start to finish and enjoyed the chance to create something entirely my own. (expect location sound, Thanks Josh Camerote for helping out!).

Color correction was very very basic. Mostly just 3-way color correction in FCP. I may revisit color correction down the road.

My Viemo page is a little outdated and lacks a lot of my work. Check out andrewdavidwatson.com for more of my work, thanks!

I also wanted to say that if you read the original ETSY blog post you’ll find a little more context to the video, but my grandfather and my dad were/are both skilled workers. My dad rode a 1970 BSA lighting and my grandfather had an Indian. I grew up around tools, projects and workshops so I'm really happy to see the content of this piece is serious consideration. Thanks again for viewing.
