Wonderful video from the opening of Christopher Joyners - 'Experiments in Expropriation' exhibition at Art in the Underbelly. Features a rare, stripped back performance by Death of Death of Discotheque and some very tongue in cheek use of Mac screensaver style stills.
ABOUT THE SHOW
For the show Christopher Joyner has been working on a series of work appropriating vintage photographs from the extensive NASA image gallery.Using the found imagery he is liberating himself from any personal experience with the original subject, then through repetitively reproducing the images they experience a mechanical abstraction and in the new context they bear a new meaning. He will be exhibiting several large scale works straight on to the walls forming an installation space for the bands performance as well as a series of smaller framed prints all made from the same appropriated images but mechanically deconstructed.
