    It might be too generous to call these clearcuts "silviculture." As shown here, this is more like mining. Just once, I'd like to see an advocate of even-aged silviculture show a silvicultural clearcut (as opposed to a commercial one) where several preparatory cuts were made over a period of years or decades to improve the stand quality and establish advance regeneration before the overstory was removed. I would love to see a young, vigorous, even-aged stand that was well established and thinned. THIS would illustrate the potential of even-age silviculture.

    So many stands in the Northeast have been abused and neglected for so long that a clean slate might be the best way to go.
