1. "Note To Self"
My Masters of Digital Media major work. Although it is open for interpretation, the work represents the intertwining life cycle of a $10 bill and a male. The bill returns to the male at different stages of his life to show how he reacts to money. Although the character realises that there is more to life than money towards the end, the character is actually in an endless and inescapable cycle, as he shows his son (which really is himself) how to plant a money tree.

    note to self: be cool.

great work. can you tell us a little about the process of making this?
  • itsgeedee 3 years ago
    Thanks alot!
I basically started with filming live action footage - edited it - exported it at 12fps - then started tracing each frame by hand on a wacom tablet - then brought it back into after effects and started masking each frame with a photo of a piece of paper - that's then main part of the process - the rest was a mixture of drawing and compositing between photoshop and after effects

i love the concept and the animation!
the music didn't really do it for me - no clear tune (although life isn't clear most of the time either)

Hey man, This is really good work!
You should post more videos. You must have more, especially from someone who's got a Masters in Digital Media. Where did you study? If you don't mind me asking?
  • itsgeedee 3 years ago
Thanks! This was actually my first shot at animation but plenty more to come - i studied at the college of fine arts (UNSW) in Sydney

Great. can't wait to see more! I am new to animation myself. I always wanted to do some rotoscoping.

    Incredible!!!
Lotta hard work and disciplin, I imagine.
Only thing (and please no one get me wrong on that, it´s something that I felt) the steady paper texture kind of annoyed me a little bit. but that was about all. The rest is awesome. Nice nice work mate.
    Cheers!

That is a really nice video. Did you rotoscope it by hand or did you use some kind of program?

    excellent job.
  • itsgeedee 3 years ago
By hand, using a wacom in photoshop

I was a little ambivalent towards this at first, but the transitions to and through adulthood were arresting. I don't think I'd call this "heartwarming" so much as "cautionary," but I guess everyone takes away something different from open pieces like this. Great title too, loaded with multiple readings. Nice work.

    Good Concept man :D
I liked the idea of making it sort of a visual circle, it matches the title well. I also like the fact that every new thing comes out of another. For example: That watch when it keeps on rotating and that boy/man gets older. It just caught me.
    Great!

I really like this short except the music. No offence - it's nice but dont fit to the style of the graphics and color selection. I wish to hear something electronic, like JUSTICE for example.

klapow. Salient life lessons....and I think the string music is half of the magic. Really captures the stages of life, for some. I keep coming back to your posting and it has slightly different meaning each time. Keep it up.
