ISS Awarded Fun Run ‘Most Participants’ Trophy

The Sunday, March 13th, 2011 Cancer Care Charity Fun Run on Koh Samui, was hailed a huge success and the International School of Samui (ISS) was awarded the trophy for, “Most participants enrolled in the Fun Run”... registering a total 52 participants.

Starting at Nathon Pier and organized by the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui with sister properties Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai and Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok in association with the Thai Red Cross Society, the 5km and 10km routes are perfect for either running, jogging or walking!

The growing annual event continues to raise “Funds for Cancer Research” and this year the island event proceeds are going towards the Genetic Cancer Research Centre at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

ISS participants in the “Adult 10 km. both male and female, age 16 years old and above” included Victoria Lees, wife of ISS Founder & Principal Jeremy Lees; David Shore, ISS PE teacher; Karan Laad, ISS Math teacher, Fiona Russo ISS Year 2 teacher, Elizabeth Hayward ISS Year 5 teacher and Rui Zou, ISS Chinese teacher.

In the “Adult +16 5 km. both male and female, age 16 years old and above” 8 ISS staff included: James Hawort, Y3 teacher; Nancy Deepracha, school secretary; Sandra Bachmeyer, librarian; Fiona Russo, Y2 teacher and Elizabeth Hayward, Y5 teacher.

Hearty congratulations were given to entire family enrollments, including from ISS:

-Sandra Bachmeyer (librarian) with husband Lars, daughter Romy Y11 and son JustinY5.
-Frederick and Laurette Declerck with children MilaY1 and GabyY6.
-Troy and Shelley Salter with children JosieY7 and TyeY4.

In the “Student 5 km. both male and female, age 15 years old and under” event were: BenY10, KaceyY7, GabyY6, MilaY1, SamuelY4, FinlayY4, JayaY5, James R.Y5, JustinY5, RomyY11, George D.Y7, CharlyY3, George R.Y3, CarolineY3, SophieY6, YouriY8, JosieY7, TyeY4, ChelseaY9, NewY9, NamY9, ElioY4, James R.Y5, Philip Y2, NewY10, FloreY6,Maddie Y9.

ISS students proudly collecting their awards on the podium were: Ben Y10, Elio Y4 (running 5k in flip flops!), Justin Y3, Jaya Y1, Chelsea Y5, Stephanie Y6, Thomas Y4. Coming in at 1st place and collecting her trophy and prize for the “Woman 5k” was ISS Math teacher Karan. The top 5 runners in each category were recognized at the podium. In 5th place representing ISS, was Chinese language teacher, Rui.
A fantastic time for all participants in raising funds and awareness for a worthy cause and ISS promises an event bigger turnout next year!
