when i first moved to chicago, i wasn't aware that on new years eve, some folks think that shooting guns in the air makes sense at midnight, so i spent my first new years eve in chicago on the floor. then, i moved to an area that's considered a rough part of chicago, and has a lot of gang nonsense, so i heard gunshots more often than anyone ever should. the chicago pd even shot a guy right in front of my building. nothing like leaving your house in the morning and finding police tape tied to your fence. all in all, i actually liked the neighborhood. seattle is soooooo mellow compared to every place else i've lived/spent time in.
Yikes! Sounds like my 'hood! And I relate to actually liking (not minding) the 'hood, except for those awful parts, like murder and gunshots and stabbings and rape. So far, murder hasn't hit my building, yet, but shitting in the stair well, constantly throwing down chicken bones, doing drugs, vandalizing, and loud LOUD violent fighting is not unusual throughout my halls and lobby. It's like living with animals... except, I actually DO live with animals and they are more civilized than this.
