+++ UPDATE +++
Please watch the 1080p version: vimeo.com/21278369

This is my first attempt using a DSLR to shoot Timelapse.
I snatched my sisters Canon 450D and borrowed a Kessler Cineslider from a friend.
I never had any experiences with DSLR´s before, but i always was fascinated viewing time lapses online.
So i decided to do it myself!
I learned allot during 2 months of shooting (the weather was terrible most of the time), but i still have to learn more.
The flicker-problem was a big one, so i discovered great software to get rid of it.

granitebaysoftware.com/Products/ProductGBD.aspx
gwegner.de/lrtimelapse/

Most of the shoots were taken with the kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm f3.5), except the illuminated city at the end of the clip.
This was taken with the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8., and i love it.

Unfortunately, my district is very boring (Hamburg/Germany). No mountains, light pollution preventing me to shoot many stars and it was very cold.
Next time i will start to teach myself a new technique during Summer!
Standing 3-4 hours at a low temperature (-10°C/14F) freezes my tails off!

Enjoy the video and don`t forget to rate and comment!

Awesome!! Not a bit boring - Hamburg is a great city and you managed to make some real cool time lapse sequences showing it's beauty!
  • DeejayMD plus 11 months ago
    THX Gunther!
Yes, Hamburg is a great city, but i miss some mountains touched by clouds.
    One Question:
What are your exporting preferences for Vimeo?
I saw a couple of your videos and they look crystal clear without blocking or banding.
Especially on Youtube my videos look horrible.

    BTW, thanks for your software!

    Merci!

Great shots! The fireworks, the boats! One question, the earth shot: is it stock footage or a 3d program?
  • DeejayMD plus 11 months ago
I asked the "NASA" to let me join the final flight of the "Space Shuttle" ;-).
No, this shot is done with "Cinema 4D".

Wow, you've got some really amazing shots. Seriously.

  • Joel Eusebio plus 11 months ago
Yeah u do have some amazing shots. How did you get the shots of the fireworks. was that a timelapse or was that just footage slowed down? looks great
  • DeejayMD plus 11 months ago
The fireworks were shot with an EX1 and then slowed down. It´s a composition, using this shot and a time lapse sequence, done in after effects.

    hey, tolles video!
    Ansonsten eigentlich immer Standard.

maybe long but can u attempt explaining what u use ur software for?
i know u use GBDeflicke for flicker problem
but the others? i have AE & LR but not the other 2.
jus want to get the idea for the work flow as i am new to this field.
ur help would be very much appreciated!
    thank u in advance!
  • DeejayMD plus 7 months ago
    THX!
Sony Vegas is an editing software. You can use any other products like Premiere, Final Cut, etc.
I`m using AE to render the photos into a video file (Avid DNxHD-Codec).

LRTimelapse is a great tool to animate exposure for example (link is in the description). It can also deflicker your footage.

Cinema 4D is a 3D-Program i used to animate the opening credits and the earth. It`s not necessary for timelapse sequences:-).
