At the suggestion of users Dawkeye and AA, I have made a contribution to Fuzzy Dave's birth year project using the year of my son's birth. I have tried to include events that will interest my son, so they are not necessarily the most globally significant events of that year!

    Not a bad thumbnail, either.

Yeah, had me wondering how you were going to get the White Stripes into it.

Ok, that last shot is really not fair.

First vimeo clip ever to make me tear up a bit. Something about fathers and sons I guess. Only by the barest of margins did I manage to keep a stiff upper lip, old chap.

    Good job.

This is likely my favorite (favourite?) of the birth year project contributions.

Lemmy's real name is Emile Heskey? Really?

    Go Foxes!
  • SteveR plus 3 years ago
Emile Heskey was a Leicester City player who went on to play for England. He's in the Foxes clip. Lemmy's real name is Ian Kilminster. He became known as Lemmy when he was a young impecunious musician, because of his habit of greeting friends with the phrase "Can you lemmy a fiver?"

Ah, I see. It seems that my feeble attempt to impress you with my knowledge of English football ("Go Foxes!") was undermined by my complete ignorance of players' names. Thanks, wikipedia.

I first saw Lemmy (and his impressive mole) on "The Young Ones," which was being re-run on MTV several years ago. For a short time, I thought "Ace of Spades" was the best song ever.

Does he really like "Father Ted?"
  • SteveR plus 3 years ago
Yes. He especially likes Father Jack. What schoolboy could fail to warm to a character whose vocabulary is almost entirely "feck", "arse", "girls" and "drink"?

    YES!!!
FATHER TED IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER MADE... I KNOW I'M YELLING... IT'S THAT GOOD!!!

    Your son has impeccable taste!

Seriously, one of the funniest things ever put on the air. I have the DVDs for the 3 seasons but don't recall that clip. Do you know what episode that clip is from.

If anyone is reading this post and does not know what Father Ted is...you MUST check it out. This was my kind of show.

Ted has to be one of the all-time comedy greats. The clip I used was from an episode in the 2nd series called "Song for Europe", which concerns Ted's efforts to enter a song for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The co-writer of Father Ted, Graham Linehan, has more recently written a series called "The IT Crowd". I don't know if it's reached the US yet, but it's very good indeed.

I do seem to recall that episode now...just didn't remember those scenes. I'll need to go back and watcgh them all again now.

I'll totally look out for "The IT Crowd".

    Thanks for the info...

What a photo at the end.

Unfortunately John Howard became Prime Minister in 1996.
