such a good video. editing was perfect as were the song choices! I love the way that in the ending everything reverses and the riders go back the way they came from in the intro. That dolly shot at 05:26 is just amazing.

  •
  • Steve Staffan plus 11 months ago
Hey Joe, gotta ask, why the Glidecam 4000 and not the 2000? I know you have used it with your HVX or whatever, but isn't it overkill with a DSLR since they have very little weight?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
The 4000 has a longer boom which makes your shots more stable. I add more weight to the top of it so the whole rig is a bit heavier which also makes it feel very solid.
  •
  • Dave Sowerby plus 11 months ago
great edit and great riding. I think this is probably the best filmed bmx I have seen in any video. So so good.

Joe, if you get a chance to answer again what camera body and lens setup are you using on your glidecam? I find it much more difficult to film with the 5d / 15mm fisheye combo than I did with my video camera. I know its all practice but I'd be interested to know.
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
I used both the 5D/7D. Some shots are with the 15mm. It's harder to fly the 15 because it's so light, just takes a lot more practice. The 16-35 is nice because it's heavier and gives the system a better weight balance.

  • lear miller plus 11 months ago
are you shooting this in 24fps like your other films or do you use 30 for bikes?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
This was shot at 30p. For sports 30p works better for the fast motion.
  • Mitch Girard 11 months ago
do you shoot 60p with the 7d though? would you reccomend 60 or 30 for action sports like biking and skateboarding?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
I used 60p on the 7D and converted it to 30p for native slowmo. For me straight 60p is a bit too "video" look, I prefer 30 or 24

Joe, have you ever thought of mounting a camera to somewhere on the bike? ....might make for some great shots...or maybe you already did. Instead of a Glidecam you could create a Bikecam :)
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
The cameras mounted to the bikes always look cheesy... can't do that.
  • Jonny Jones 10 months ago
I tried mounting GoPro's to Trials bikes, it does look different but hard to edit it in smoothly with the rest of the footage, especially with my 7D Glidecam stuff. Its in this video I did recently - vimeo.com/21192427

How are you getting the very low Glidecam shots? are you shooting with the Glidecam upside down and then flipping the shot right side up in post?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
Yes, shooting with the glidecam upside down and flipping the shot in post.

    ghost cameras???
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
    eh?
  • Scott Miller 11 months ago
some of the shots like the 360 drop off the wall the first shot gets really close to the wall, and the second is of the wall drop and you dont see the first camera, ghost camera lol
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
It's magic! You don't want to see me running around like an idiot with the glidecam :O
  • Scott Miller 11 months ago
ahhhh but how?! the only explanation i can think of is you shot it twice haha or i WAS right, ghost camera!!!!
  • Joe Simon Films plus 11 months ago
Did not film twice..... Used movie magic!!
