Thank you so much. This video shows so much of the potential this cam has. I was really nervous about a statement from the 5D mk2 manual about recording blown out regions as black pixels. In this video, there are some very bright objects (sun reflection on opening train door) and these objects did not have the black highlight problem. To be honest i never saw this issue so fare. Also the Rolling-Shutter-Effect was not very bad. I own a HV20 and it seems the Rolling-Shutter-Effect on the 5d mk2 is equal or less visible. I really need to get my self a 5d!

How did you focus for most of the shots? Is focus difficult to hold?
  • LeJapon 3 years ago
I have use only manual focus, so on the small 3" screen of the camera it was not easy to see if it's good or not...
  •
  • Tony Robinson 3 years ago
Nice! Was it all hand held?
  • LeJapon 3 years ago
Yes ! Just the Tilt Shift at the end I have use a tripod.
And all was in manual focus.

Wow, the Canon 5D Mark II shoots amazing footage! Great vid. I was wondering if the movie "jellos" at all if you pan the camera?
  • LeJapon 3 years ago
It's visible only on very fast pan, like when I have shoot by the windows of the train... that's all.

Kobayashi: We had this camera from akihabaranews.com the cameraman work for them.

terje: The editing was in 720p, I converted the 1080p rushes in 720p. But because everybody want a 1080p version, I've linked the 720p rushes with the originals 1080p in finalcut pro before the export.

Thanks a lot everybody et merci mikedeaf ;)

Very nice video that gets my hopes up again, now that it turns out RED's Scarlet will have a 2/3" sensor in the cheap version...

Can you tell us how you control exposure? Is it even possible? I would like to be able to lock it in so that it doesn't change over the shot...

    What lenses were used?

    Thanks!!

I might have not spent enough time on these vimeo threads (over a whole day actually) BUT at present time I just cannot understand how come there is so many people here with 5d in their hands an NOBODY uploading via ftp some
U N C O M P R E S S E D clips for the others to really evaluate the quality of the original file compression. The 5d seems to be a fantastic tool but when I look at these vimeo HD clips I see a very bad compression , specially on the areas which are defocused...
should I buy the camera I would immediately provide uncompressed clips for all of you, ladies and gentleman... anybody so kind to take the effort in the mean time?

Greetings, Loved the addition you've done with your video. I saw the first one you posted in mid December which was much shorter but was enough to convince me to get a 5D markii. Nice work! Have you seen "Alone In Tokyo" by Philip Bloom?

Very nice, exciting to see a still camera with such a great video capability
  •
  • i am so excited, Why bother buying an expensive video camera anymore if all you need it for is short presentations? It seems the EOS 5D Mark II blows them away and all included in the basic still camera price.
One question! when you record video if you plug lcd monitor to hdmi output can you see realtime?

This is pretty impressive, great composition and clean edits. 1:45, 2:08, 4:30, 4:48 are fantastic example of what this thing can do. I've not seen any decent still shots from a HD video camera so it's very exciting to see such vivid HD video from a simple DSLR still camera.

Great work. The DOF of course makes it a wonderful video option for any indie filmmaker, HOWEVER, the lack of 24p gives it a simple "video" look that makes it difficult to use as a film camera option. And the washouts and lack of presets (like the xh a1 ) also will make it look "un-film" like. I love this camera, but I think very soon we will be very tired of the film "wanna-be's" trying to use this camera as an equal to film...but then again, it is it's own unique animal...so in the end I think I will buy one.

Lenses are going to be another issue. Canon makes great lenses, but remember that those destined for the 5D are still camera lenses, not cine lenses. It's the same glass, but the housing and function is completely different. Most notably, with a real cine lens to go from nearest to infinity you must make almost a full barrel turn of the focus ring. This is by design, to make pulling focus on a moving subject easier. Conversely, with still-camera lenses the range of barrel travel to go from nearest to infinity is very short... usually only one-fifth of a complete turn. Therefore, pulling focus when using them as a cine lens with a moving subject can be maddening... even for the best focus pullers in the business. This is exactly the same problem that many people run into when they use SLR lenses with a DoF converter such as the P+S Technik Mini35, RedrockMicro M2, Letus35, Brevis35, etc. I've known several people who have tried it, but almost invariably they end up wishing they had real cine lenses not long into the shoot.
