The Precise is an underlying and omnipresent property of computers and machines. Precise Papers is a tangible representation of an algorithmic and generative exploration of The Precise, enabling a material experience of the precision of machines.
160 ellipses has been cut out of 160 pieces of paper, creating a perfectly precise, growing and moving organic shape when the papers are stacked. The shape has been drawn in Processing and cut out with a laser cutter, creating a degree of precision impossible to replicate by manual human labour.
Using the Processing Random and Noise functions adds a sense of ambiguity as the shape of the ellipses varies slightly every time the sketch is run on the computer but at the same time being completely precise in its computation.
