Shahed is 21 years old. Six years ago, when war broke out in Iraq, she and her family came to Jordan.
“I dropped out of school because of the war,” she said. “I was in the top of my class in Iraq, but unfortunately was not able to continue my studies in Jordan. Thankfully, I was introduced to Questscope. It gave me hope again. I learned a lot and met a lot of girls – not only from Iraq, but from other countries as well.”
After Shahed graduated from NFE in 2009, she was nominated to join the Youth Action Committee (YAC). Shahed was one of 13 exemplary NFE graduates who acted as a board of directors for students enrolled in NFE.
Shahed says, “I learned a lot from the YAC. We enjoyed our time together and benefitted a lot from one another. I hope I can pass on what I learned to my friends at the NFE center.”
As a final project with the YAC, Shahed researched the obstacles youth face in continuing their formal education in Jordan.
