Leslie Evans, the Scottish Government’s director general for learning and justice, presented at the latest in UHI's series of free Institute of Directors’ leadership lectures in Inverness.
Ms Evans discusses how education in Scotland makes a difference in improving leadership skills and that continuing professional development and lifelong learning are essential in all aspects of civic life, including the public sector.
Leslie Evans has responsibility for children, young people and families, and learning and skills development in Scotland, covering the early years, schools, colleges and the university sector. Her previous posts in the Scottish Government include director of culture, external affairs and tourism; and responsibility for the financing and policy for Scotland's local government, executive agencies and non-departmental public bodies, and the public service reform agenda.
Prior to joining the government, Ms Evans spent 20 years working for urban and rural local authorities in England and Scotland.
