From the poet.playwright.actors that brought you 2010's amazing 'rtown'...the first footage from this year's planned adaptation: PYGMALION!
3 minutes of the DCCWW version is followed here by a clip from the 1938 film for comparison. Watch'em both and tell us what you think!
The original Shaw play, known to many more in its musical version 'My Fair Lady,' is about dialect, identity, education, class mobility and so much more.
Those themes are all present in the DCCWW's new version, though in typical fashion the kids have turned things on their heads: in the new conception an Uptown Chick comes to Higgins to become a Southside Shawtie...
The final version will have more appropriate costuming, settings, scrubbed sound, smooth transitions...
You are seeing neither the final cast nor the final draft, let alone the final cut--but do note the striking beauty of the image from my beloved new T2i: a major upgrade from the SD quality of rtown. I am currently trying to acquire a second to complete the film, but that's another story.
DCCWW fills a crucial need in the lives of these young Washington artists--redefines their lives really--with Creativity, Confidence and Collaboration. Find out how you can support our latest production at dcww.org.
