hello i heard the censor gets warm when filming too much and the pics starts getting very noisy is that true?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
True, the sensor get warm after a while, I read about someone who shot about 20-30 minutes "continuously" before it started to shut down. You need to take a break to start over, but I don't know about the pics starting to get noisy after the sensor is hot.

I didn't experience any problems yet though.

My D90 should be arriving tomorrow. How do you like shooting vid with the D90 vs your Sony and the vibrating adapter? I realize the video capabilities are quite limited...
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
I like the D90 very much, as a matter of fact I sold my FX7... Now I can play with DOF in a small package and I love the stealth mode :)

The D90 is far to be perfect, with all its imperfections I still enjoy every bit of it.
  • Trin 1 year ago
I am playing with it right now...I have much to learn! I admit your clips played a part in my decision :-).

    Nice one.
To tell you the truth, I decided myself to buy a D90 after watching for a month the clips you shot with your family.
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
    Thanks Vincent, really appreciate this.

Your samples where also a main factor in my decicion to buy the D90 but watching your clips starts to get expensive because now I want a Merlin too :-) (for a future DSLR model with autofocus)

When will you start to apply a simple Displacement Map filter in After Effects by default? See dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=149663&page=5
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
Martin, that's exactly what my wife said... its starts to get expensive :)

I already tried the Displacement Map filter (short test), the one you link from Halsu, I will do it with this clip and reload it.
  • Martin Koch 1 year ago
Make sure to use the displacement map file posted by buildyo.
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
    Done :)

Just curious - did you ever try the 1.4 50 mm Ai? How did it work out? Someone in my area is selling one...
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
Yes I tried one, but the one I had wasn't very sharp. You can use the aperture in manual mode, only work in M mode though.
  • Bhavik Patel 3 months ago
thanks, was wondering the same thing about the other vide :D
  •
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
I upload a new version, I used a Displacement Map Filter in After Effects using the method created by Lee Wilson, I used the Halsu technique and the D.Map file from Buildyo at dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=149663&page=5

That pretty much take care of the infamous " Stair-Stepping" in D90 footage.

  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
Thanks Ben! The Merlin is not an easy tool to master... but with practice you can pull some great shot.

hi, long time no see your stuff, it's amazing. In the begining of this video, you shake your D90, there is no rolling shutter artifacts. how did you do about it? the Deshaker plugin?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
    Thanks photoman,

No plugin at all, with the Merlin you can move the D90 pretty fast without rolling shutter...

Stair Stepping Removal Method? What's that all about? I'm a photojournalist with little knowledge of motion photography (at the moment). Getting D90 real soon.

    Hello Roland,
First I will say it's a really beautiful movie!!!
    Keep up the good working.
And I'm interesting in the name of the song.

    greets Testamizer

    Thanks D.I. Riordan!
You can't touch the camera on a Steadicam or you will disrupt balance and the shot. The only way to adjust focus on the Merlin will be with a Remote (electronic) Follow-Focus.

Would a D90 work with a Steadicam Jr?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 11 months ago
Yes it would work. I made a DIY steadicam and it work pretty well, I'll upload a test soon.
  • Trin 10 months ago
I'm curious to see how you made out with the DIY steadicam. Did you by any chance make the "$14 Steadicam"?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 10 months ago
I will post a clip soon, thats not the "$14 Steadicam", it cost me around $65

    VIVE LES CANADIENS ROLAND;-p

So you would agree that I buy the Nikon Body without the lens kit,, and then for now, I start off with the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8?,,,

    thanks
  • Roland Cadieux plus 10 months ago
Thats the one I used most...

    j'aime bien la Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, L'ouverture constante à f/2.8 de 17 à 50mm est vraiment un atout, surtout en intérieur. ..

Sure I agree, thats what I've done... :)

Hi Roland! Your videos are great!

Do you think it's possible to remove almost completely the rolling shutter issue while recording with steadicam (such as merlin)?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 9 months ago
    Thanks Alan!

If you are careful while handling the camera you can remove pretty much all the nasty rolling shutter, with the steadicam its easier to keep free rolling shutter while moving.

Roland, do you remember the setting you used to dial in the balance with the merlin and the d90? Any pointers would be great. I'm close, but not quite there yet.

    Thanks!
