1. A Dip in The Pool
This screencast is an introduction to The Pool, an online environment for sharing art, code, and text. If the lesson students learn from RIAA lawsuits and university anti-plagiarism licenses is that sharing information is bad, The Pool offers a very different message. This innovative social network encourages not just sharing digital files themselves, but sharing the process of making them. Created by students and faculty at the University of Maine's New Media Department, The Pool has been described by Wired magazine as a "daring leap...to prove that open sourcing any and all information can help students swim instead of sink."
