A simple School Classroom scene done in one evening for lighting practice.
Modeled and rendered in 3ds Max with Mental Ray and Composited with After Effects.
I used a simple cheat to speed up the renders a bit, i calculated Final gather and Global Illumination with Portal Lights ON (placed on the windows) so it focuses more Samples and Photons inside the scene and gives cleaner results even if Final Gather is on draft preset. Then when i do the actual render i turn them OFF and let the Sun & Sky do Direct Illumination. Since the Portal Light was used at the Indirect Illumination stage, some of that area light is baked on the saved calculated data. Then added a quick Ambient Occlusion pass in post along with Depth of Field with Lenscare Plugin. Also did some grading.
