Watch the development of the internal wave field generated in the lab by a density current in a stratified flow. The video shows density perturbations--areas where the density of the fluid is higher or lower than it would be without the waves. In our lab, the density current is stationary and the bulk of the fluid is flowing left to right. This is the same as if the fluid were stationary and the density current were propagating from right to left (and the camera were moving at the same rate as the density current).
