I created Un/Funded as a critique of the conceptual art factory system that physically disconnects artists from their works, just as a business owner is removed from the process of their assembly lines. I believe the act of conceiving and creating a piece is an act of collaboration which distinguishes art from business. The title refers to the long standing trend of the grant system and wealthy elite funding art that serves their best interest and does not challenge the status quo, leaving politically and socially progressive work without a funding source. It is intended as a celebration of the capability of individuals to explore their natural, man-made and inner worlds through art, of art as a catalyst of invention, and technical and emotional inquiry.
