Smart Energy Networks are electricity networks that can intelligently integrate the behaviour and actions of all users connected to it - generators, consumers and those that do both – in order to efficiently deliver sustainable, economic and secure electricity supplies.
The Free University (VU) in Amsterdam works with a large group of European organizations to test decentralized power management, test self-healing of the power network and test powergrids behaving in island-mode where people are supplying their own electricity and are completely independent of the rest of the power network.
