"Elephant in Hotel" was inspired by a National Geographic photo I saw of an Elephant racing through a hotel lobby in Zambia and the bewildered looks on the faces of the concierge and guests. (see the pic below!)

The caption said the Elephant was on a migratory route. He was just following instinct and searching for food from a familiar mango tree in the garden that had been recently enclosed by the newly built hotel.

That for me was funny and too surreal, and yet it speaks to habitat loss and issues of coexistence with nature. I feel for the Pachyderm!

Musically the song is inspired by Venezuelan Joropo and Peruvian 6 8 rhythms, but not any pure version. I did embellish the lyrics a bit with some picardia Cubana! The performance features the nu Latin groove; Ze Mauricio on perrcussion, Jorge Bringas on Bass, Pablo Vergara on keys, Gintas Janusonis on drums, Rafael Gomez on electric guitar, and yours truly on acoustic guitar and vocal.

Check out this track on my new record -JOSE CONDE- coming the fall of 2011 on my label PIPIKI RECORDS. For Tour info, Videos and Music, visit joseconde.com. Enjoy!
