I hoped this wouldn't get political... I believe Obama's policies are a step away from the principles of America--and yes, I believe America is at its purest is based on a principle: that everyone has equal rights to individual liberty and that the real purpose of government is to protect that freedom as equally and justly as possible.
That purpose is complex because everything government does must, on the one hand, curtail individual freedom. Thus, government must be very careful to ensure that its laws and policies, on the other hand, are absolutely necessary to fairly provide protection for all. This is why the belief in limited government flows from the same ideology. For example, because even "the poor" have a right to protection of their freedom, government must have a equitable method for collecting taxes--even though taking someone's money without their direct consent is, in principle, a violation of liberty. The violation is justified because it is necessary to meet the overall principle of equally protecting all liberty--which is the one principle that is justifiably forced on all according to what I consider the American Ideal.
This principle guides my political ideology, and applying it with sound reason has lead me to largely conservative views. That is why, to me, a vote for Obama is a vote against the core of the principles that define America.
"I hoped this wouldn't get political".
