2. Second Hand
A new 7-minute animated film by Isaac King.

The term "second hand" refers to the ticking hand on a clock; it also describes re-used items. Would you rather save time? Or save stuff? This film examines the imbalance and waste created by these modern obsessions.

UPDATE:
Winner - Best short film, Cinanima Animation Festival, Portugal
Honourable Mention, Ottawa Animation Festival, Canada

this was a beautiful work of art and you should be extremely proud of it! Not only were the visuals constantly surprising, and the gags you create with them classic, but the story really stuck with me and made me think. Which as a guy who sometimes tend to lead on the side of the main character, is saying a lot. Thanks for making me slow down to appreciate life for a little bit!
  • Isaac King 6 months ago
Thanks very much Joshua. I find I'm a bit of both characters myself.

  • What a lovely film:-) Really enjoyed it. Love the artwork too. How did you make the texture of the characters if you don't mind me asking?
  • Isaac King 6 months ago
Thanks Peter. The technique was a mix of stop-motion and 2D drawing in Flash, combined in AfterEffects. I'm hoping to put up some making-of pictures very soon.

  • Isaac King 6 months ago
Thanks Ilona. I think I'm a bit of both, which is why I made the film. I aim for a low-impact life, but I have "lawn order" tendencies. I cut trees along the fence line just like Fast Man.

Incredible! Love the mixture of 2D and still photography, films like this remind me why the variety available in animation is surely the most rewarding aspect, and makes me want to leap off of the beaten track. Insane!
  •
  • Kumeelyun 6 months ago
I felt like I was sitting in a theater watching an animation festival when I saw this. The 2D/stop-motion is amazing. I'm certain most people would just resort to CG to create the look you made.

I enjoy the story as well, and how it points to balance in behavior and action rather than an extreme shift one way or another. The double meaning in the title is perfect. Great work!
