This lecture focusses on the societal mechanisms that block innovation in the world. By way of multiple examples of this trend throughout history into the modern day, three main blocking mechanisms are presented.

The realisation of these blocks points to a very specific reorientation that needs to occur in global life in order to become truly innovative, truly sustainable and truly humane.

It is the shift towards a society founded upon the scientific method and technology applied for human concern and the environment which will resolve almost all the problems in the world - accepted on a global and individual level.

Excellent lecture!!! He answered most of my question and I have only one objection: (PLEASE don't take it negatively) my opinion is mr. McLeish should use ... eh, simpler sentences... While I see the point of concentration demanding lecture as a 'workout for brain' this is NOT intellectual discussion (OK, it is but...) the GOAL is to awaken the asleep mind of people (let's not call us masses) and shake this (global) rotten society that alienate, starve, maim and kills more people then ANY accident, disaster or war in the whole history... (I'm talking about unnecessary daily death toll in children lives from malnutrition or lack of basic requirements, countless unnecessary crimes and other 'products' of our society and the world we accept as NORMAL... )
So, while I respect the effort mr. McLeish has put into this, I thought this should be more... easily acceptable and understandable to ALL the people.

Thanks Josip. I attempt to speak in a common register, but some of the concepts require the correctly descriptive language. I'll work on this.

Fantastic, Ben! Thank you for bringing these thoughts to the forefront. It's time WE take charge, and BECOME instruments of change in our world, and stop relaying on the powers that be to tell us how it is.

    Thank you

I don't know about you guys, but to me, listening to this is like a bright light in the dark of the night. I feel like waking up from a deep slumber. I wouldn't have said that before, but now I can say it: what a great time to be alive! There's so much great things to look for !
