"Thank You" has quite the soap opera story behind it. Two summers ago I was studying abroad in the jungle in Zambia, Africa. My boyfriend and I had been dating for 3 1/2 years. I had limited internet seeing as I was living in the jungle studying the Comparative Psychology of Chimpanzees. When I finally got an email from him 2 weeks into my trip I was ecstatic! I began to read the one-paragraph email with no signed name at the bottom. F-words instantly started flying out of my mouth. In the first line he wrote "I have had a lot of time to think while you have been gone and actually it was cheating on you that made me realize I didn't want to be with you so I'm breaking up with you." There was no explanation or contact from him after this email. So to help me cope with this and get closure I sat on my cot, grabbed my guitar and started to write "Thank You." After returning home, I found out that the the girl he cheated with was one of my closest friends. They are still together today.

Lyrics:
I said the heart break of time would mend the mind
but I've found some things never change
a continent away I get a letter from you and this is what you say

"it was cheating on you that made me realize I didn't wanna be with you so now we're through, now we're through"

Chorus:
And all I can say is Thank You, cus now I know who you really are, Thank You, cus you can't hold me from my dreams anymore, I'm a better person without you, and thats the only thing that was ever true, between me and you

I hope your happy with her, cus it will never last, your a cheater and always were,
I wanna see your face when I accomplish my dreams and your still on your ass as high as can be.

Chorus:
And all I can say is Thank You, cus I'm one man closer to the man of my dreams, Thank You, cus now I'm free from the burden of you and thats whats true so Thank You, Thank You
cus now I'm free from the burden of you so thank you, thank you, cus now I'm free from the burden of you, and how we're through
