The Surfrider Foundation was happy to welcome Captain Charles Moore to the Hawaii Chapter Conference in March 2011. Captain Moore is credited for 'discovering' the Garbage Patch in the North Pacific Gyre during a sailing expedition in the late 1990's. Since then he helped to start the Algalita Marine Research Foundation and has been a driving force to raise awareness about plastic pollution in the marine environment.
