This is where I got my Letus Extreme:
letusdirect.com/258.html

I just made this quick video to show everyone what my new rig can do. The Letus Extreme can basicly take digital video and make it look like film. I LOVED working with it today! This was my first practice so I'll only get better. : )

I filmed this with a Canon XH-A1 (manual w/my own custom presets), Letus Extreme Adapter, Canon EF 24mm-70mm L series lens, Letus support rods (30cm + 15cm couplers), and color corrected in Final Cut.

The guy in the video is Ryan Reyes from one of my all-time favorite YouTube channels YouTube.com/PimplyWimp.

The music was by my friend Tony of Guilty Bystander:

amazing! how much is the letus cory?
  • Cory 1 year ago
This one costed about $1,900 for the adapter and rails. The lens was about $1,200. I got a few other toys as well, but I haven't brought them out yet.
  • Jeremy Isley 1 year ago
Hey, Cory, what is wrong with your grammar! Your first sentence should be "This one COST about $1,900 for the adapter and rails" LOL.

my brother has the Lettuce too, its so much fun to play with.
  • Cory 1 year ago
Lucky dude! What camera does he have?
  • Bainbro2 1 year ago
thats the sad part, we have no camera. so we keep borrowing cameras from his friends.
  • Cory 1 year ago
WHAT??? You have a LEX and you DON'T have a camera?!?! What's wrong with you people! lol j/k
  • Bainbro2 1 year ago
yeah yeah i know. well he has been wining awards for his short film. and he has been building up money to make a feature film and to buy a new camera. but we only have messed around with it, really havnt used in a actually shoot.
  • Cory 1 year ago
How can he have the money to make features and to buy the Letus, but NOT buy A camera?

    YOU'RE HURTING MY BRAIN!!! lol
  • Bainbro2 1 year ago
    haha.

The thing is, the short was filmed on actually film. It the camera was borrowed from his college and bought the film reels for cheep. And over time they keep selling dvds. And he let's other friends use it for money. So with those two bolt up, hopefully we can start this thing by next December. And I you want to see the short, it's on myspace- the coffin maker.

Nice vid cory! [Even if they are weird]
By they way,how are you doing?
  • Cory 1 year ago
This one isn't meant to make sense. It was just a test to show you the new effect. I'm good btw, you?

    Wowzers Cory.
Are you using this camera to film your Haunted House thingy? (its gonna be a new interactive youtube game right? Or am I wrong?)

Do you think that when you have the time you can post a video about how to do color effects? Cause I know that one of the things to make a movie look more cinematic is color effects, and I suck at it.
Think you can put up a tutorial sometime?
  • Cory 1 year ago
The horror video is actually the reason I got this. I have wanted this for so long but I've been waiting for the right time to get it and now is that time. Yes, it will be an interactive video btw : )

The color effects are simple, but in all honesty, it depends on the footage you're editing. Sometimes great cameras can be hard to correct and crappy cameras can be easy. The most important thing you should have is decent lighting. Color correcting is usually easier no matter what if you have good lighting.
  • Joshua Brody 1 year ago
Oh so money isn't a concern to you Mr. I make 20,000$ a month??? lol jk.

    Thanks for the tips Cory.

Do you know if iMovie 08' or iMovie HD has color correcting?
  • Cory 1 year ago
They both do as far as I know. Final Cut Pro will have a more in depth version of it, but I'm sure it's not too much different.

    Another thing.
I've always wondered how directors/editers made the background blurry and the person not blurry.
Is that a trick that you guys do or does the camera do it by itself?
  • Bainbro2 1 year ago
it really depends. because it can be done with the camera your using or it could be done in editing.
  • Cory 1 year ago
What you're seeing is called "narrow depth of field". You can achieve this look with just about any camera by zooming close into a subject from far away. The adapter just allows me to stand closer while doing this.

I did this without the adapter in "The World's Best Gamer" where I dragged the table across the carpet.

Reallt good video Cory, I hope to see that same quality in all your future videos. Really nice work :-)
  • Cory 1 year ago
If the quality were always the same, then you'd only be expecting my best. Sometimes though, I like to film with my other cameras just because it's different. Either way I'll do my best with what I'm using : )

  • Cory 1 year ago
Yeah, feel free to call me though and I'll give you some tips. I figured it all out pretty quick.

BTW, I just looked at your account. WHERE ARE YOUR VIDEOS? Vimeo is so pretty and I know how much time you spend making your art. You should post it here so people can see it in it's full beauty! I'd watch : )

I wish I Could afford Stuff Like That!
  • Cory 1 year ago
10 years ago when I first joined YouTube, all I had was a $300 Sony Handicam, a working computer, and $50 editing program. It wasn't until 1 year AFTER I joined YouTube that I got a better camera. Then I got this camera less than a year ago. The point is, if you really want something just do it and KEEP DOING IT! If you truly believe in yourself and your work, then money will come magically... yes I said magically. I don't charge people to watch my videos like film makers usually charge people to watch theirs... so where does my money come from to afford this? Sponsors who like to invest their money into people with passion. If you do something long enough, you'll get better at it.

You know the Naked Cowboy in New York right? Why do you think HE is famous? There are plenty of other people in other places that do the same thing... so why is it we only know him? The answer to that question is how success is made : )
  • Cruce Satterfield 1 year ago
Cool, Same here I Have $300 Sony Camcorder
But I Only Have 240 subscribers

    Not sub for subs
    thanks
    YOU ROCK, and ur inspiring
    P.S
Congrats on That Stray Cat award!
  • Cory 1 year ago
Again... it's not about how many subscribers you have. It's about how much you love what you do that matters. If you have fun with your creativity, it will show through in your videos. People like watching other people have fun, plain and simple.

Why do you think I post videos on Vimeo? Because I think it's prettier and a little more fun. Notice how I answer more comments here : )

Nice work Cory. I am looking to invest in the Letus Extreme sometime soon here in the near future. I shoot on the Panasonic DVX100. I love it. I am just starting to shoot more with it now. I also shoot on multiple mediums/cameras like you do. I shoot on my Sony Handycam which I first started on, and I also use my Flip Mino (which I love) sometimes too.

I can't wait to see more work from you.

    Always a fan.

Dude, once you know your camera inside and out you should TOTALLY get the Letus! The DVX100 is a very nice camera and many professionals still use it today for viral videos.
  • Matt Riley 1 year ago
Yea I've had my DVX for about 4 yrs now and still wouldn't say I know everything about it, but once I am able to I will most definitely go the route of the Letus...It's amazing, and I know once I have the opportunity to shoot with it, I will fall sooo deep in love with it.
  • Matt Riley 1 year ago
    Hey Cory,

I also wanted to ask you about a good mic you would recommend to replace my onboard mic on my dvx100. The sound quality on most onboards are pretty horrible. I know the one on the dvx is. I am looking to get a good external mic to add on. I tried to ask trippy what he uses on his, but he never responds to me :-(

Thanks dude, I would appreciate it.

I just got the Canon vixia hv30.
Is it gonna be as good quality as this?
  • Cory 1 year ago
I have an HV30 as well and there is an adapter for the Letus that fits it. Of course, I'm shooting with the XHA1 so the colors and clarity may pop out a bit more than the HV30, but I've seen footage from the HV30 that could have fooled me for sure! Just search "HV30 Letus" here on Vimeo for some examples of footage.

wow... i was blown away... first thougth: shi* why am I watching vids on yt, if I can have this quality!!! That is amazing it (almost) looked like a commercial!
  • Cory 1 year ago
I WISH YouTube had this kind of quality... all my dreams would come true then, lol
  • Sara Parker 1 year ago
    All your dreams ??? *gg*...

Can't wait to see the new stuff with the "film"equipment :)
  • Cory 1 year ago
Ok, not all my dreams... but the majority of them. I just wish everyone who watches me could see me at my best. It sucks when I add so much detail to a video that's ripped apart by a low quality compressor (such as YouTube's).
  • Sara Parker 1 year ago
I know what you mean! I uploaded a shortfilm (student project) and I was so pissed when I saw the quality, I felt like the whole thing was falling apart... a friend of mine uploaded a vid with mostly pictures from a SLR and the compressor blow the quality... he was so obsessed to find a hack or a possibility to tune it for youtube that we didn't see him for several days/weeks...

....but you are always to critical with yourself. Others won't care. the crapiest mobilephone-snaped-vids on yt will have 5 Stars cause the people are entertained and the HQuality things with great editing and amazing acting will fail, cause they didn`t like the font you chosen for your intro... the YT audience doesn't care that much about the quality, they like what you are doing... and as it is the platform where you earn your money atm, don't waste your energy on beeing perfect... (Save it for the big projects in the future :))...

Wow! you have started to use depth of field alot more now! even though i do make lots of films i dont often get the chance to be cameraman and use F1.8 cuz im acting/directing and then editing. and i also do the writing. but im so worried about it not being very well made that i end up trying to do everything and just passing with "ok". darn. anyways, nice to know your having fun with your new toy! XD. i really want to get a good camera but im slightly out of pocket. i currently use an Everio HDD GZ-HD7 which i saw u use in the video where u give sparta his own channel. when u really get used to using the new equipment then Speilberg will have his first rival! if ur eva in the uk it would be great to see ya!

hey how come vimeo can have hd but youtbube cant?

Youtube can, 720p at least. Go here youtube.com/watch?v=suO7CbFAKLY&fmt=22 and watch in full screen.

It is my video (Only one Ive tried, and is a great examle), and Youtube is letting people have 720p video secretly. But Vimeo is still better Haha...

Great Job Cory. Letus and other Pro adapters are way out of my price range.... unfortunetly. Im thinking going DIY style and making my own vibrating adapter for my HV30. And getting the Indyrails for it too. This is really inspiring for a young guy like me. Keep going man. :)
