I really wanted to make a video of London while I was there earlier this year but I didn't had any camcorder, so I took pictures instead. In fact I took more then 3000 pictures and put them all together in less then 2 minutes.

I mixed it with the track ''Harder, better, faster, stronger'' from Daft Punk live record ''Alive 2007''

Pump up the volume and enjoy.

very nice, what gear did you use? is it a fisheye lens in some clips. and how you did the panning?
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
thanks, it's not a fish eye but a wide angle lens. The paning is mostly done in post.

They were saying that 11 years ago when I was in London.. in fact when you walk out of the subway, there were people selling t-shirts with that on there!

haha mind the gap :D so true ;).

but also great video i add it to my favs. Greets from Hamburg.
  • Dridge plus 10 months ago
I got one of those 'mind the gap' t-shirts when I went there in '98. I still wear it.
for the record, it was the only piece of touristy paraphernalia that I bought!

It's a post-production effect in After Effects called 'London Smoothing'
  • Lauri Smith 1 year ago
of course there's a steady stream of busses if it's a looping clip of one bus :)

but yeah, great editing on this one.

Great Music!! Awesome Still-Videographic Accomplishment!!!! When taking the pics was the end result in mind or did this project just fit together.
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
Thanks, but you'll have to thank Daft Punk for the music. I usualy have in mind a very good idea of what I think will be the final result by choosing the song as the first step. Then during the process of creation it becomes something different, often better then what I thought it would be.
  • Anthony Elliott 1 year ago
Great video. I'm happy to find someone else who chooses their music before starting the edit!

Kudos for making things with what you got! I enjoyed it immensely.

And its also nice to seeother people that start with the feeling they get from a song and goes alittle from there!

Now THAT is one creative force to reckon with! You have got to send this in to the London Tourism Bureau and get them to USE this as advertisement! I think it's just plain BRILLIANT! BRAVO!!!! I'm getting the word out!! Makes me want to BE there and hold a tall warm BEER!

    hello David

very nice video you have done...

What about post a tutorial to explain how to do this kind of work as someone has suggested in the discussion.
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
I'm not a big fan of tutorial, I would encourage you instead to use your imagination to create something that would amaze me back!!

Anyway there is allready dozens of tutorial on the net to create timelapse video, the pan is something you can easely do in after effect with your HD footage afterwards.

here is a question for you... I have been working with some similar style things, and I am wondering how you got it into an HD format? Is it a certain setting in premier?

    thanks,
    daniel.
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
You must be in HDTV (720x1024) mode in your general setting in premiere. I Used photo footage instead of video so my source was already way bigger then HD.

Really a great work! What camere did you use?
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
Canon EOS Rebel, but what you realy want to focus on is a good lens, a good light, a nice framing and an interesting subject to shoot at.
  •
  • kaspars plus 1 year ago
You can make great things with ur imagination in that condition.
You have interesting use of loops, as I noticed. In some parts (like in 1.oo-1.o6) you had great use of picture moving from left to right making it look like it's a long series of pictures, but its made only of one picture serie just looping all the time. Correct me if I'm wrong.
And this cpuld be agreat London ad. Really. send it in somewhere. :-)
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
You are absolutely right for the looping thing, thanks for the comment.

BLIMEY! The look on those piccadilly circus shots was superb! I loved it. The recurring emptying pints were awesome as was how you had the the sections turn by adjusting camera angle. Well thought, makes it look more alive. LIKED :)

To me, this is a flat out brilliant way of capturing London. Just magnificent. Brought me right back in the swing. I especially love the Guinness part, as it inserts a certain narrative of human action in this mostly impressionistic film (which I love).

    Congratulations to David Hubert!

No time for white balancing... just aim and shoot, After effect takes care of the color correct afterwards.

    Nicely done!

How many hours did you put into it?
  • David Hubert 1 year ago
Hard to tell... I did it on my spare time. A few days just walking around in the city to shoot random stuff. Then another few days to do the editing. Let's say 10 days of full time work. I only have one advise if you wish to have enough spare time and imagination to do this kind of stuff...

get rid of your cable tv!!
