This is a recent time lapse piece I did on New York City. Many of the shots were specific for this project but some were recycled from previous projects but I loved them too much to not reuse them.

Shot with Canon EOS 7d
Canon lenses
18-55mm f3.5-5.6 USM
28-135 f3.5-5.6
50mm f1.4 USM
75-300mm f4-5.6 III USM
Pro Optic 8mm f3.5

Canon TC 80N3 intervalometer used mostly with Little Bramper for sunrise/sunset shots.

Awesome! I've been meaning to complete a similar project for quite a while but it's gonna take me forever to get the range of shots you have here... Nice work!

Really wonderful stuff, James. Quite an epic.
As New Yorkers ourselves, we really love the grittier shots you captured of those very NY elements.

    how much time it takes?
  •
  • James Ogle plus 10 months ago
Hard to tell because I slowly assembled clips over several months time frame. Counting the actual shooting days though I would say a few weeks.

Really striking and finely edited -- so many interesting shot locations. You've given us a great city profile. Especially liked the bridge shots, water shots, and the globe shot. What kinds of shutter speeds do you tend to use for daytime people sequences?

Did you get any special permission to use tripods in NYC,or did you shoot without. Any problems ?
  •
  • James Ogle plus 10 months ago
No special permission. Just me, my tripod and a lot of free time. Only had trouble once with private security outside a building but it did not make the cut.

What's your favorite settings for night shots that include building/car lights?
  •
  • James Ogle plus 10 months ago
Thank you to you all. Ben, I have found really great results with 2 second exposures at 2 second intervals at night. I feel like the light trails tend to blend together smoothly and in theory every minute you shoot is a second of footage.

For the shots (specifically of the bridge) that went from day to night (sunset), what settings did you use? Did you change your aperture or shutter speed midway during the process? Or were they fixed the entire time?
  • James Ogle plus 10 months ago
I recently started using the Little Bramper but have had mediocre success using aperture priority in the past.

ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING!!! Fantastic composition, exposures, compilation & editing!

You could make and sell stills of the Brkln Br. @ 1:54. I'd buy one!

Question: Was the pic of the vintage Pepsi sign (0:34) rendered to look like aged slide film. Genius! Vintage subject; might as well make it look 'real' vintage!
  • James Ogle plus 10 months ago
Thanks. It was a look I stumbled upon while stacking polarizers and ND gradients in my mattebox. No post processing on it at all.
