Could not have said it better, The days of filming a traditional wedding without a theme/Idea is as dead as "Dawn of the dead" remakes, The time of creativity is at hand in any and all genre, and this piece proves it!

There was no time. We had to do the majority in one take with a ten minute window. A couple of times we were allowed a second take!

Same question here. With that many hits Black Eye Peas and the label must have taken notice if it wasn't licensed.

Its a parody, so comes under fair use laws. Both Inside Edition and Today Show got it cleared for airtime, no problem. Unless there is big money to be made, the record company etc. most likely wont come after you.Sometimes they also think it helps promote the song. Every situation is different. We were lucky. It also helped that the bride and groom are execs at Universal. Same company that owns BEP.

I've been in the music biz 21 years and pretty sure if I lipped sync'd a Beatles song, the powers that be would be on me instantly, at the very least a C and D letter, at worst copyright infringement. A parody would be a rewrite to an extent, ala Weird Al, this video use the actual artists track locked to your video.

But your right, every situation is different. BEP may not mind, but the real reason it flew is because of who the B and G work for. It IS all about who you know.

My point to all of this is that everyone who sees this is gonna think they can use what ever content they want and make a video. They won't know the back story as to how and why the couple were able to use the song. If it were me, I would have put a small note indicating the song was used by permission and avoided detracting attention from the quality of the video.

None the less, great video and great work.

Everyone who attempts to use copy-written material should tread very carefully. We were lucky that's all. It could have easily gone down another way.
