After a three hour rally and march, activists returned to the San Francisco City Hall for a peaceful protest against the passage of Prop 8 in which a 14 word change was made to the California State Constitution defining marriage as an agreement between a man and a woman.
City Attorney Dennis Herrera filed a petition for a writ of mandate with the California Supreme Court to invalidate Prop 8. The American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal and the National Center for Lesbian Rights have filed a lawsuit contending the ballot initiative was "improperly used."
