The cave from 'out of the box' in depth.

Not all who lost their lives defending our liberty were on the front line. Many perished from their prolonged exposure to the cordite, (the propellent agent used in the manufacture of munitions), and others died from accidental explosions also during the process of munitions manufacture.

On this remembrance day let's not forget the backroom (mostly women) workers who also lost their lives in the cause.

Why this cave?

This cave was used during WW2 for the storage of munitions, which were manufactured about 2.5 miles away at Swynnerton in Staffordsire. Hence the extensive brickwork.

I just ran over the intended time of two minutes by a few seconds, and the silence is deliberate of course.

Nice one Keen, an appropriate upload on Remembrance Sunday - munitions workers also remembered.

My you were quick off the mark there, you saw this before I did, because I went to bed whilst it was uploading.

I was intending to put a small poppy at top-left, but tiredness and time got the better of me, I may just do this later in the week.

    Thanks for the spot-on observation.

so sorry I missed this- you no longer send me shares :-( this is an excellent documentation, as you know if I was there I'd be running to that cave with my cameras to film away. I love the graffiti shots- interesting but the shots of when you are inside and capturing the light, exquisite, oh you know I can't write commentary no where as fancy as you do, lol hope you are well just the same.

I'm really sorry Maria, but I didn't rate this as having any value. It was purely a spur of the moment effort that I knocked up on remembrance day.

I have no problems whatsoever with the graffiti. There is nothing within this cave that would upset even the frailest grandmother, it's just the work of joyful youngsters who just want to personalise a place which brings them happiness.

I knew a man who lived in Wales, he actually lived in a cave. The front was bricked as a conventional house, but upon entering it really was an awesome experience to be inside this hole in the mountain with all the mod cons. The only thing missing was a rear door.

    Memories like these are priceless.
