The hip flexors are a group of muscles found in the front of the hip & generally work to lift the knee (or knees) up toward your chest. Examples of some activities using hip flexors as primary movers include climbing stairs or a hill & kicking. If your feet are on the ground then the hip flexors will help pull your trunk or chest toward your thighs or knees like flexing forward quickly to avoid hitting your head.

Since the hip flexor group include the psoas, iliacus, tensor fascia lata, pectinius, rectus femoris and fibers of the adductor magnus you must include elements of traction and multiple angles of motion with rotation to completely cover the entire group.
