Tagline: The truth will set you free
The rich and elitist school Babylonia is on summer break, Tutor Archie has seen potential in one of his students, Daniel, and keeps him over the summer to work solo. No meat, no alcohol, no cigarettes and lots of meditation, not easy for a teenager.
He already struggles socially as he is empathic and feels other people’s emotions. Although quiet he attracts people has three outcast friends, lads who work the grounds and are not part of the school system. Separately Chad feels ostracised after being important and popular all year and now abandoned by his family over the summer. But trying to entice Daniel with lavish gifts and indulgent behaviour causes him only aggressive rejection, which wound him to the core.
In this confrontation something changes, Daniel’s world slips into an altered state and we begin to see the beauty and devastation that his new intuition brings. His perceptions are changing before he’s ready to handle them and now he’s made a deadly enemy. Daniel sees fire in the future, but doesn’t know how to stop it or if he even has control at all.
The film will reference classics like "if..." and "Clockwork Orange", giving the feel of a forgotten era. Although not set as a period piece, I intend to play homage with costume and locations. Our story takes it’s influence from part of the bible, although neither myself or the writer are religious, it gave us a rich vein to manipulate in a modern setting.
The most exciting element is the visual world that Daniel sees in contrast to the world around us. That he hears anger in creative sounds like trains approaching, that an offer made with seeming kindness turns a room dark if it’s true motive is selfish. Daniel sees the truth in others and he doesn’t feel like it’s a gift.
As the script is 10 pages long and all set in one location it will be a weekend shoot. We already have cast in mind for the two leading roles and a large Nokia phone list of exceptional local crew looking to get involved.
