I shot this in the B.C. and Alberta Rockies. I went with an Ansel Adams style look for this piece.

The song is "Einfeld" by Ulrich Schnauss. Shot on a Sony V1U. The black & white is done with Magic Bullet Looks.

    Haha! A debate has started!
  • Moayad Hassan plus 1 year ago
It wouldn't be an Ansel Adams if it was in colour, would it?

    ;)

  • Michael Fidler 1 year ago
It was just a thought, but I agree with no color.

Great video Jon, I'm going to download your original .mov file now and watch it in its full splendour!

All the best and thanks for sharing it with me, 4M2.
  • Jon Rawlinson plus 1 year ago
Thanks! It looks much better in full res!

You should see the full 1080 HD version!
  • 4Moorhens2 plus 1 year ago
Playback of your original 29.97fps, 1280x720 ~8000kbps file is really smooth - not sure that my pc could handle a 1080 HD version!

I really enjoyed watching it - very impressive, cheers.

B/W works really well with your subject matter and your choice of music kicks it up a notch over Ansel Adam's classical/orchestral leaning.

Beautifully shot and edited and the music choice was spot on. I liked it in black and white/ worked well with the icy mountains - frigid waters etc

Looks like we will have to bring the tripod to South America ay

This is absolutely spectacular. I'm excited to see the color version! I think the skies, specifically, are what I want to see. The BW works really well on a lot of those still water ones. This is a relaxing and gorgeously shot video. Takes me back to the mountains, makes me want to go back SO BADLY! ha. Thanks!

Very nice work. You seemed to capture the "Zone" system on a video. A difficult method without using "dodging" and "burning". I really enjoyed it.
  • Jon Rawlinson plus 1 year ago
Thanks! Hmm..never heard of the "zone"
  • Joe 1 year ago
The Zone System is a photographic technique for determining optimal film exposure and development, formulated by Ansel Adams and Fred Archer in 1941. Developed for still photography, it uses a gray scale to determine the range of exposure you use for exposure and development of the film and printing. I learned it in my college photography classes.

just viewed the color version after having fallen in love with the black & white. you have my vote for b/w - striking, stunning, emotional, large. the color makes it more realistic, but less emotional for me....of course the rainbow WAS nice to see in color;-)
  • Jon Rawlinson plus 1 year ago
    Thanks Erika! I appreciate that.

Wow! really nice work Jon. Looks like beautiful country. Did you spend a lot of time to get your footage. I just recently got back from New Zealand and have posted a Vid on vimeo. Your opening scene looked very similar to one of my scenes but I recon yours is better. Love the time lapse stuff. I'll be watching in the future.
