Somali pirate, Jama Ibrahim, is sentenced to 25 years in prison on April 7, 2011 in D.C., after he was found guilty to hijacking the Clipper Group vessel, CEC Future, in November 2008. Ibrahim and other pirates held the crew and captain of the ship hostage for 71 days before a ransom of more than one million dollars was paid. This historic court decision marks the first time in history that a pirate has been prosecuted for hijacking a vessel and not just an attack. This is also the first piracy sentencing in the District of Columbia.
