Society for Philosophy and Culture seminar, held at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in July 2010, as part of our series "Human Beings & Freedom: An Interdisciplinary Perspective". Chamsy el-Ojeili speaks on "After Post-Socialism: Social Theory and Utopia in a Global Age" with responses by James Liu and Kate Schick.
In this talk, el-Ojeili explores arguments around the demise of socialism, the degeneration of Marxism, the death of the social, a post-Marxist condition, and so forth. El-Ojeili suggests that Marxian social theory and utopian politics remain relevant in the light of contemporary globalization.
