I was given an open brief to make a film for an environmental conference. A low budget and fast turnaround lead to this idea - using the metaphor of time running out as a backdrop for the message.

The 500 million elephants of the title refers to the weight of waste the world creates every year. Scary statistic.

Shot with a EX1 sporting a Letus Extreme and a 105mm macro with variety of extension tubes and diopters.

Edited my Andy Oates. Music by John Hendicott

it's amazing! how have you done it? is it possible to make such cool effects in after effects´?
  • David Betteridge plus 1 year ago
It was composited on Final Cut which is nowhere near as powerful as After Effects so I guess so. A lot of the look is in the photography but the layering is definitely possible in AE.

A very well made film indeed with an equally great message. I thought it was fantastic - I've been pondering the idea of producing films on environmental issues for a while now and seeing a film as greatly put together as this one really inspires me to do so in the near future. Great job with this film!

Excellent work! Very well made. Did you use a stock footage of the clocks?
    I like it very much!
  • David Betteridge plus 1 year ago
I shot all the footage of the clocks and watches, the stock footage was all the film leaders and grunge layered over it. Glad you liked it thank you.

Stunning, I love everything about it. Nice work!! What is the name of the song?
  • David Betteridge plus 11 months ago
The song was composed by a composer called John Hendicott of Pink Punk especially for the film

Excellent work. Deserves to be seen by a wide audience. Amazing how you used the "clock is ticking" metaphor for the catastrophe we are heading towards. Thank you for sharing this movie.

What stock library has those film effects? I'd love to get my hands on some. If you don't mind giving up the source. Well done piece.

Got most of them from iStockphoto, it's a really useful site and very inexpensive.
