Hi peoples!

We made this film to showcase our CG abilities. We wanted to make the best showcase one can imagine for a new car. We chose the Porsche since we...just..like Porsches!

We storyboarded, previzzed, animated and rendered it all in house. Production took 4 weeks, rendering on a 8 core MacPro took 4 months non stop. All frames rendered at a minimum of 1 frame an hour, some took 24 hours per frame (the door opening took that long because of the blurry reflections). Everything was rendered in 1920x817 in Cinema4D. No Radiosity was used, only some area lights and a nice environment based on an EMC room.

Part 2 of this film is currently in production and is going to look even awesomer than this one :D ! We plan on doing some sort of trilogy based around the awesomeness of the car.

This is the kind of stuff we want to do, create awesome films with a high production value that evoke a positive emotion.

Audio was created by Maarten from m-works.nl

Thanks again Maarten!

I can't stop thinking that after 4 months you'd notice something very horrible about it and then had to wait another 4 months to release it... SCARY -.-

    Great job guys... Breathtaking :o

Thanks for all the amazing comments guys! I had one instance were I just felt a 4 week render shot wasn't good enough for the cut so I had to delete it :D . If this was a commercial project I would have let it render on 4 renderfarms. I calculated that it would only take a day or 2/3 to render :). Plus a lot of projects aren't rendered on 1080p but much lower.

OMG, that really is a beautiful render, extremely photorealistic. How did you model the car?

I think you guys need more than 1 computer :-)

The only thing that told me it was CG was opening of the hanger-type doors. The exact moment was from the POV of the viewer looking up and to the left as the doors opened. there's a certain movement to CG I've got stuck in my brain, hard to describe, more like a lack of gravity's effect or hold on the door. Love the Porsche!

amazing. My home computer has been render for the past 16 hours, with about 20 more to go. I thought that was a long time. How did you afford to have a 8-core Mac out of commision for 4 months? And was that non-stop rendering? Did you ever give it a break?

While I'm greatly admiring of the quality of this piece, I wonder if you might comment on the coincidence of your logo being quite similar to the logo used by Rabbit in the Moon? For comparison, a Google image search: tr.im/ojaC

    Thanks!
  • Daan Pol plus 5 months ago
    Hey Caltd,

The logo you are referring too is a non-copyright logo found in a book about ancient painting styles. We took their logo for inspiration and drew our own version upon it :) . I can find you the Amazon link if you'd like to check it out for yourself.

    It's fake. Obviously Photoshopped.

    That needed to be said.
The video looks great, guys. 4 months of rendering must have been torture. There had to have been moments where you're like "Holy crap, the progress bar hasn't moved in like two days. I think the Mac froze."

Then you were like, "Oh wait, it's a Mac. Nevermind, dudes, false alarm."

  • Daan Pol plus 3 months ago
Thanks man! We are using the standard raytracer in Cinema4D for this :) . We did a lot of post to beef it all up.
