Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn discusses his exhibition The Eye (Das Auge), on view at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto, Canada from 10 March - 29 May 2011.
Selected to represent Switzerland at the 2011 Venice Biennale, Hirschhorn is renowned for using everyday materials, found images and impassioned graffiti-like texts to engage viewers in actively thinking about politics and philosophy. Based around the image of an eye that sees only the colour red, Das Auge (The Eye) is one of Hirschhorn's most significant – and visceral – creations to date.
